Family & Personal Constellations

An experiential systemic approach to relational and life patterns.

For relationships, life transitions and recurring emotional patterns that feel difficult to shift.

Available in Sydney and online.

What are Family and Personal Constellations?

Family and personal constellations are a facilitated experiential approach that works differently from talk-based or insight-driven methods.

Rather than exploring a situation through explanation or analysis, it engages with how relational and systemic dynamics become perceptible through experience, perception and spatial awareness.

The approach originates in the systemic constellation work developed in Germany by Bert Hellinger in the late 20th century, and has since evolved internationally through a range of contemporary facilitators and applications across therapeutic, organisational and coaching contexts.

How Family & Personal Constellations Work

Constellation work is grounded in systemic thinking and phenomenological observation, meaning attention is given to what becomes perceptible in the moment, rather than relying only on analysis or interpretation.

Through a facilitated process, elements of a situation may be represented spatially in group settings, or through objects in private sessions. This allows relational dynamics to become observable in real time through positioning, interaction and embodied awareness.

The role of the facilitator is not to impose meaning or provide fixed answers, but to support clearer perception of what may be unfolding within the system, and what becomes possible when it is seen from a different perspective.

  • Subtle but meaningful movement in stuck or repetitive areas

What would you like to look at?

Constellation work explores how relational patterns are shaped across different layers of family experience, including both present-day relationships and intergenerational history.

Family of origin

Patterns formed in early family life can continue to shape emotional responses, relational dynamics and internal beliefs in adult life. This may include roles we learned to take on, emotional responsibilities, or ways of relating that remain active over time.

Current family and relationships

This includes partners, children, blended families and close relational systems. Constellation work can support understanding of recurring dynamics, tension, distance or patterns that are difficult to shift through communication alone.

Intergenerational influences

We are also shaped by what has come before us — including family history, significant events, losses, migrations and relational patterns that may be carried across generations. These influences can continue to be felt in subtle but active ways within present-day life.

Migration, identity and belonging

For people with migration or expatriate backgrounds, these dynamics may also be shaped by the experience of leaving a country, culture or family system. This can create complex layers of belonging, identity and relational adjustment that continue to influence how life is experienced long after the move itself.

These themes may show up as a sense of not fully belonging, internal conflict between cultures or expectations, or emotional patterns linked to separation, responsibility or family history across distance. Constellation work can offer a wider perspective on these experiences.

Connections between life, work and professional contexts

The same systemic principles that shape family and relational dynamics can also be present in professional and organisational contexts.

Patterns around communication, decision-making, responsibility and leadership often reflect broader systemic influences that extend beyond personal or family life. For those navigating work-related challenges or leadership questions, these dynamics are also explored in organisational constellation work.

About Ursula:

“I am Ursula Dauenhauer, born in Germany with an Eastern European background, and Australia has been my home for the past thirty years.

I bring more than 35 years of experience in business, primarily in technology and strategic markets, alongside over twenty years of experience in systemic constellations, which I encountered in parallel with my professional career.

Over time, these two fields of practice have informed and shaped each other. My work in business brought a deep understanding of organisational and relational complexity, while constellation work brought attention to the underlying dynamics that influence how people, teams and systems function.

At a significant point of life transition, I chose to integrate these paths fully, focusing on facilitating systemic constellations across business, family and personal contexts.

Rather than separate domains, I see these as interconnected expressions of the same underlying systemic patterns that shape how individuals and systems operate.

This integration now forms the foundation of my work, offering a grounded and attentive space where what sits beneath a situation can become more visible, understood and workable.

Whether in personal, relational or organisational contexts, the work supports a deeper way of seeing what is present — and what may become possible from there.

If you would like to explore whether this approach may be supportive for you, you are welcome to book a free introductory conversation.”

What A Session is like

While every session is different, it typically begins with a question, situation or theme that feels present or unresolved.

The work unfolds through a structured facilitated process that may involve exploring the issue spatially, using people in group settings or objects in private sessions to represent elements of the system.

This allows relational dynamics to become visible in real time through positioning, interaction and embodied awareness, rather than through analysis or explanation alone.

The focus is not on role-play or performance, but on what becomes apparent through direct experience, and how this may relate to the client’s situation.

Sessions are contained, focused and experiential in nature. No preparation is required.

Clarify the Issue

What feels stuck or unresolved?

We begin by identifying the focus of the session — whether this is a relationship dynamic, emotional pattern, internal conflict or life situation that feels unclear or stuck.

Map the System

Who and what is involved?

Key elements of the situation are identified and represented using people or objects, creating a spatial map of the system.

Observe what emerges

What becomes visible when we step back?

As the system is placed, relational dynamics and patterns often become clear instantly  — including aspects that are not usually visible in everyday awareness.

Movement and resolution

What shifts when the system moves?

From this awareness, the process explores  greater clarity, balance or connection. This can bring new perspective, emotional shift or a sense of movement in what previously felt stuck.

Integrate the Insight

What’s different now & what may open up?

As the session comes to a close, attention is given to what has been recognised.

Often there is a shift in perspective or a quiet sense of  reorganisation that continues beyond the session.

What people often experience

    • A clearer sense of what’s beneath recurring patterns
    • A shift in how they perceive a relationship or situation
    • Emotional relief or softening around long-held dynamics
    • A new sense of orientation or inner clarity
    • Greater understanding without needing full narrative explanation
    • Subtle but meaningful movement in stuck or repetitive areas

Who this work is for

This work tends to resonate with people who are:

  • Navigating complex or emotionally layered situations
  • Experiencing recurring relational or emotional patterns
  • Moving through transitions, uncertainty or decision points
  • Interested in understanding deeper systemic influences
  • Open to both insight and experiential exploration
  • Seeking clarity where other approaches have not fully shifted the issu

You do not need to know exactly what the issue is. Curiosity and openness are enough.

Each experience is individual, and what emerges is not predetermined and might be surprising.

"I was first introduced to Family and Business Constellation therapy by Ursula over 15 years ago and was quite blown away by the power and profundity of what came through in the session. I did it with various other practitioners over the subsequent years, but when Ursula started doing regular group sessions two years ago, I was all in.  I have benefitted from both the insights into my business and how to move forward in certain directions, as well as resolving issues on a more personal family-based level. Whether you're having a Constellation done for you or you're acting as a representative in someone else's, there is so much value to be gained. Ursula helps facilitate and navigate the delicate space with such intelligence, wisdom and compassion. If you're already very familiar with Constellation therapy or are curious to try it out for the first time, then I can't recommend Ursula highly enough."
